Corporate Clothing & PPE For The Rail Industry
For the rail industry, CSS offers an extensive selection of PPE and high visibility outerwear that complies with RIS-3279-TOM. RIS-3279-TOM (formerly GO-RT 3279) is a high visibility standard that only applies to the rail industry in the UK, as opposed to the EU-wide nature of other EN standards. The aim is to ensure that rail workers on or near the trackside are sufficiently visible to trains approaching at speed or any other traffic. Hi-visibility clothing is the ultimate principle behind the UK Rail Industry Standard. This is based on the European Norm EN 20471:2013, and garments must comply to Class 2 Hi-visibility, the middle of a three-class range. The standard states the following: ‘Hi-visibility clothing worn by people on the lineside or on or near the line should conform to a single standard for the colour and luminance of background material and that this standard will accord with the detail contained within BS EN 20471:2013 high visibility clothing – Test methods and requirements (ISO 20471:2013).
Green and yellow are often used for train signalling, therefore rail personnel wear hi-vis orange attire to prevent train drivers from being confused. Orange is a far better choice for increased visibility because most train maintenance work occurs in rural regions. While hi-vis orange stands out sharply against bright and dark surroundings, a worker dressed in yellow hi-vis clothes can blend in with a green setting.
Many workers who operate on or near the rails run the danger of being involved in an arc flash occurrence. Because the UK has an electric rail system, anyone performing maintenance runs the danger of being injured by an arc flash. An arc flash explosion can happen when:
Operating near or on electricity wires, railways and electrified lines
Maintaining track-side distribution panel equipment
During track maintenance & groundworks
Railway sleepers, wires, and fencing installation & installing new fencing
In order to provide your staff with the best possible protection, CSS provide arc flash helmets and gloves in addition to arc flash jackets, trousers, waterproofs, coveralls and polo shirts. Please feel free to contact us below to organise an initial consultation meeting.
